WELT.SCHMERZ

In the realm of languages, cataclysms, of course, are the exceptions. It is rare for a tongue to meet the fate of the inhabitants of Atlantis, who disappeared forever, one presumes, when the mythical continent sank to the bottom of the sea. When one examines it closely, the end of a tongue seems less a single point than a transition carried out over centuries. Like the multiple memories of a distinct and immemorial origins invoked by the nearly nameless narrator, the remains of the past are superimposed on one another.
